Blessed Angel Program

According to the data published by state health departments, there are about 150,000 – 200,000 newborn infants that have various CHDs. If they are given timely treatment, most of these children will cure after operation and can live a life of or approximate to that of a normal person. However, the medical expenses to treat children CHD are too expense for the family of these children in the countryside or impoverished regions to afford, many children lose the opportunity to have cure because of the lack of money for operation and die or become disabled.

The Blessed Angel Program is one of the key public interest and charity programs carried out by the CMS Charity Fund and implemented by the Red Cross Society of China. The program will provide funds to children with CHD in impoverished families to complete operation.

From 2009 to 2011, 550 impoverished children with CHD have been saved successively. In principle, the fund given to each child was no more than RMB 10,000 yuan. According to follow-up information, all these children gradually regained health after operation and there were no repeated post-operation occurrence of their diseases.

In 2012, the CMS Charity Fund will donate RMB 1.5 million yuan. It is planned that 140-150 impoverished children with CHD will have the aid in the year.
